Err anyone have any clue how I can fix this?

I went on for a quick game, ended up on one of those crappy hack servers and now my game is buggered as you can see. If you actually get in to a match you can't play because the graphics are all screwed.

To avoid problems in the future do this:

Step 1
Create a folder on your desktop and name it "Mw2 Profile backup" and open it.

Step 2
Open up your steam folder "\Program Files\Steam" for you Windows 32 bit users and "\Program Files (x86)\Steam" for us 64 bit users.

Step 3
Right click the "userdata" fold and select Copy, and now paste it in the "Mw2 Profile backup" folder.

Step 4
Navigate your way to "\steamapps\common\call of duty modern warfare 2" in your steam folder.

Step 5
Right click the folder named "players" and select Copy, and now paste it in the "Mw2 Profile backup" folder.

After Step 5 your profile is now backed up. (keep reading more important info at the end of this post.)

Now on to how to restore your profile once you have ran in to one of these *hacked* lobbys

Step 1
Open up the "Mw2 Profile backup" on your desktop and make sure Steam is turned on and you are logged in. DO NOT open Modern Warfare 2.

Step 2
Open up your steam folder as detailed above.

Step 3
Copy the "userdata" file from the "Mw2 Profile backup" folder and paste it in your steam folder. When the prompt window pops up asking you if you want to replace select yes. Keep selecting yes until the process is complete.

Step 4
Bet you cant guess what we do here... Open up "\steamapps\common\call of duty modern warfare 2" in your steam folder and then Copy over the "players" file from the "Mw2 Profile backup" folder and paste it in the "\steamapps\common\call of duty modern warfare 2" folder and again when the prompt windows pop up say yes to replace and keep selecting yes.

NOW! you aren't done yet. You still need to log in to Mw2 and play a game before it will be permanent.

Or try this:

I made a program to get rid of all these mods that these servers keep forcing us to download.

32-bit Download:
http://www.filefront.com/16798135/COD-MW2-Cleaner.zip/

Visual Studio - 2010 Source Code:
http://www.filefront.com/16798141/COD-M ... Source.zip

Requires Microsoft .Net 3.5 Framework (Most of you should have this already)

I included the source code in case you want to make sure it isn't going to Fubar your computer. (I know I would want to check it)

Found this on IW forums (http://www.infinityward.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=340360), but I dont know is that legit. USE IT ON YOUR OWN RISK.

Bobbo,

Reinstall did nothing. Did 2 reinstalls yesterday and it made no difference. All the hacked settings were stored by steam so after every reinstall, steam would just apply the hacked rank data etc. Unfortunately I didn't see Alf's post until after I had a go at it. I don't think it would've made any difference though as all the files that required backing up were already corrupted. Found a work around in the end, but it means all of my stats have returned to 0 shiit.gif shiit.gif shiit.gif

Firstly:

50. Modern Warfare 2 Hacked Servers - Editing YOUR cfg.file !
This can be very annoying. How do you get the original settings back ?

On your PC go to:

C:|Program Files (x86)|Steam|steamapps|common|call of duty modern warfare 2|players

Delete the config_mp file (cfg file) and right click on the game in Steam, go to properties local files and verify integrity of cache.

You will get a new clean cfg file.

You can also use this Modern Warfare 2 Configuration Utility v8.0

Changing settings in the config file will not get you banned. The game will automatically overwrite any setting it doesn't want you to change.

When you have an "okay" cfg.file and you want to keep it.... set the file on read-only. This allegedly prevents you from being re-hacked, but won't prevent rank hack.

This resolved the screwed up graphics problem in game, but didn't repair my stats in barracks, or classes etc.

Secondly:

52. Reset your Modern Warfare 2 rank after being hacked
Reset your MW2 rank by deleting Steam’s Local Player Stats.

The following four files must be deleted in order to reset the user’s rank to zero (rank level 1) in the Steam Cloud :

|Steam|SteamApps|common|call of duty modern warfare 2|players| two .stat files
|Steam|userdata|(some numbered folder)|(some numbered folder)|remote| two files

You need to remove the "remote" files to keep your rank zero. ( Otherwise Steam gives you the hacked rank back after one game.)

.................And this is what I ended up with.

barracks

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Game is fixed, stats are fixed, but I have to start again from scratch! y_cry.gif y_cry.gif

BIGDINNER.

A small recommendation for backup:

If you want to do fast and effective backup of game profile, the best way is Cobian Backup 10.

For example: I have 3 games installed: Cod4, Cod Waw and Cod MW2, and Im able to backup all 3 game profiles with 1 click of the mouse. Its slightly irritating when you have to look for all 3 profiles separately with windows explorer to copy them on desired loaction.
